Pacific Zone Championships !

AGE GROUP SWIMMING Congratulations to Leoho'onani Reyes of the Molokai Swim Team who returned from Wyoming with a wealth of new experience and an eye-opening awareness of what it will take to move higher in the world of competitive swimming.

The state's fourth fastest breaststroker in the the Girls 10 & under division found herself up against the best of the West at the Western Zone Championships in Gillette, Wyoming in mid-August and she managed to hold her own in the week-long affair.

The daughter of Fred and Louann Reyes was entered in the 100 M and 50 M Breaststroke. Despite her youth and inexperience against some of the nation's top-caliber swimmers, she overcame these obstacles with lots of determination and concentration. One of the youngest competitors at the meet, a poor start in the 50 M event resulted in a poor finish as she finished 25th out of 32 swimmers. Leo rebounded with a great effort in the 100 M event and came through with her second-best personal time and placed 18th in the event.

Leo also swam on Team Hawaii's second relay teams in the 200 M Freestyle and 200 M Medley relays. Her medley team finished in 9th place and the freestyle team placed 13th. Team Hawaii finished the competition in sixth place overall and wound up with the Spirit Award. Well done, Leo and good luck in the upcoming short course season!

The Molokai Swim Team will begin fall workouts in late September or early October. Contact Coach David Kalani or Lloyd Yonemura for more information.
