Kimberly Mokuau, the Hawaii Swimming Club's newest member
made a good showing in her first swimming meet. The 10-year old
earned a state qualifying time in her second event of the day,
the 50 M Freestyle and earned AA times in her first and third
events, the 50 M Breaststroke and 50 M Backstroke. Overall, she
placed third in the 50 M Free, fourth in the 50 M Breaststroke,
and first in the 50 M Backstroke. Kimberly also placed 10th in
the 200 M Individual Medley (IM).
The meet was sponsored by the Maui Age Group Swimming Association
(MAGSA) and was third qualifying meet of the year. Due to renovations
at the Sakamoto pool in Wailuku, the past two meets and possibly
two more upcoming meets are also being moved to the Lahaina Aquatics
complex.
By virtue of her times, Kimberly becomes eligible to swim in several
invitational meets and the state championships to be held on Maui
in June.
Loni Yonemura is back from a break from the high school
season and showed the effects of a short layoff. She swam a grueling
schedule that included the 400 M Free, the 50 M Free, the 200
M Butterfly, and the 400 M IM.
In earlier meets, Leohoonani Reyes qualified for states
in the 100 M and 200 M Breaststroke at the Aulea Invitational
Meet. Mahinameli Reyes also swam at the Aulea Invitational
where she had a very successful meet. Mahina qualified for seven
individual events, bettering or equalling her previous bests in
six of them. She is eligible to swim in the 50 M, 100 M, and 200
M Freestyle, the 50 M Backstroke, the 50 M Breaststroke, and 50
M Butterfly events, and the 200 M IM.
The season continues with three more qualifying meets on Maui
and several invitational meets to include the Manoa Invitational,
the Sakamoto Invitational, the Kamehameha Invitational, and the
Keo Nakama Invitational.
