After the first round of qualifying meets, five swimmers have attained qualifying times for the 1999 Hawaiian Swimming Short Course Championships. Two other swimmers made their debut in age group swimming.
Lenn Yonemura (Boys 17-18), Loni Yonemura (Girls 15-16), Leoho`onani Reyes (Girls 13-14), Ilia Reyes (Boys 10 & Under), and Mahinameli Reyes (Girls 11-12) have all made qualifying times in one or more events through the first three meets of the season. The three meets covered all of the events for each age division and the second round begins in November. The only invitational meet slated for the season is the Pearl City Invitational to be held over the Thanksgiving weekend.
Ashley and Megan Cantrell competed in their first meet over the October 23rd weekend. Both swimmers have been out of competitive swimming for several years but were former age group swimmers on the mainland. Ashley is swimming in the Girls 15-16 division while Megan is in the Girls 13-14 grouping.
As the calendar year winds down, registration for the 2000 calendar year will be under way shortly. Current registered swimmers who wish to renew their membership should be contacting Coach Yonemura. Other interested swimmers can also contact Coach Yonemura. Looking further ahead, the learn-to-swim program is tentatively scheduled for March, 2000.
