AGE GROUP SWIMMING

Seven members of the Molokai Swim Team competed in the final regular meet of the 1997-98 short course season. First year competitors Naeha Breeland, Jessica and Stesha Jordan joined veteran swimmers Mahinameli and Leoho`onani Reyes and Lenn and Loni Yonemura in Lahaina for the events.

Naeha, Jessica, Stesha, and Leo all swam in the same events, the 50 Y Free, 100 Y Individual Medley, 500 Y Free, and 50 Y Butterfly events. Jessica attained "AA" times in the 500 Y and 50 Y Free events. Stesha earned a "AA" time in the 50 Y Free. Leo earned qualifying times in all four events and improved on all of her previous best times.

Mahinameli duplicated her sister's accomplishments by improving on all four of her qualifying times. In the process, she won the 50 Y Backstroke and 100 Y Individual Medley and took second in the 50 Y Butterfly and 50 Y Free.

Loni barely earned a qualifying time and a third place finish in the 500 Y Free and placed second in the 400 Y Individual Medley. She also finished third in the 50 Y Free.

Lenn also earned a qualifying time in the 500 Y Free and his event-winning time was 11 second faster than his previous best. He also attained a personal best in the 50 Y Free and missed qualifying for the 400 Y Individual Medley by just under two seconds.
