AGE GROUP SWIMMING The Maui Age Group Swimming Association (MAGSA) took a break from their regular season schedule for a medal meet hosted annually by the Americans of Japanese Ancestry (AJA) organization on Maui. The meet format is completely different from regular scheduled events and three Molokai swimmers won medals at the meet. Leoho'onani Reyes officially moved up to the 11-12 age group and celebrated her birthday at the meet with a small surprise party from her folks, Fred and Louann. Leo celebrated in fine style as she teamed with Loni Yonemura, Pualana Reyes (Hawaii Swimming Club-Kahului), and Holly Fernandez (HSC-Kahului) to win the 100 Y Medley Relay. She also placed fourth in the 50 Y Breaststroke event and teamed with Loni, Holly, and Helena Suehiro (HSC-Kahului) for second place in the 100 Y Freestyle Relay. Mahinameli Reyes won the 8 & Under 25 Y Freestyle and placed third in the 25 Y Breaststroke events. She teamed with Ailani and Mikiala Miller and Emalia Suehiro, all of HSC-Kahului, for the 100 Y Medley Relay event. In addition to teaming with Leo in two relay events, Loni was entered in the 50 Y Backstroke event for 11-12 Girls. She placed third in the event. The MAGSA returns to their regular schedule next month. The Molokai Swim Team is preparing for a learn to swim session beginning in March. Stay tuned for further details.
