MOLOKAI SWIMMING MEET

by Lloyd Yonemura

The Molokai Swim Team is hosting a swimming meet on Molokai on September 14. The fun meet will be in relay format with all participants assigned to relay teams. The meet will begin at 8:30 AM at the Cooke Pool in Kaunakakai. The pool will be closed for general swimming for a short time while the meet is in progress.

The meet is open to all swimmers and registration will be taken up until 8:00 AM. Swimmers should be able to swim the four basic strokes (freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly) but it is not a requirement for participation. FUN, not winning, is the theme for the meet. All interested swimmers are encouraged to participate. The meet is coordinated by Molokai coaches David Kalani and Lloyd Yonemura in cooperation with the County of Maui and the Hawaii Swimming Club (HSC). HSC clubs from Hawaii, Maui, and Oahu will be participating in the meet as well as local enthusiasts from the Molokai Swim Team and the Molokai High School Men's and Women's Swim Teams. The meet will feature some of the best swimmers in the state, several state champions, and local swimmers Leoho'onani and Mahinameli Reyes, Lenn and Loni Yonemura, and Katie Saiki.

The meet is a prelude to the age group short course season which will begin in November. It is an opportunity for interested swimmers to see what is involved in age group swimming. Those families who are interested in participating in age group meets are asked to contact Coach Kalani or Coach Yonemura.

Contact Coach Yonemura for more information! See you at the pool!
