SWIMFEST 98

ON MAY 2ND, HSC-MAUI HAD THEIR ANNUAL SWIMFEST AT THE SAKAMOTO POOL.

PICTURE TAKING COMMENCED THE ACTIVITY WITH EVERYONE PUTTING ON
THEIR BEST FACES. DUE TO THE POOL HEATER BEING DOWN, SWIMMING
THEIR LAPS PROVED TO BE A LITTLE DIFFICULT FOR SOME OF THE
SWIMMERS, BUT EVERYONE WAS ABLE TO FINISH THEIR LAPS WITHIN THE
2 HOUR TIME PERIOD.

FOLLOWING THE SWIMFEST, PARENTS LOADED UP
THEIR SWIMMERS FOR A POTLUCK AT KANAHA BEACH PARK. DUE TO
JELLYFISHES IN THE WATER, EVERYONE STAYED AWAY FROM THE OCEAN
EXCEPT A FEW DARING PARENTS SEEKING THE ELUSIVE TAKO "OCTUPUS."
THOUGH THE WINDS WERE BLOWING LITTLE WHITE CAPS ON THE OCEAN,
TALL IRONWOOD TREES SHELTERED OUR PICNIC AREA.

THE COMPETITIVE INSTINCT QUICKLY SURFACED WHEN TEAMS WERE
MADE TO HOLD OUR 1ST ANNUAL VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT.
FIERCE RIVALRY AROSE BETWEEN THE WOMEN AND MEN OF HSC-MAUI.
FORMER RAINBOW STANDOUT REID YAMAMOTO TAUNTED THE OPPONENTS
INTO NUMEROUS SERVICE ERRORS. BUT POOR REID WAS NOT ABLE
TO ENDURE SPUNKY LITTLE HELENA SUEHIRO+S NUMEROUS
KILLS. AFTER NUMEROUS SETS OF COMPETITION, SWIMMERS AND PARENTS
SETTLED DOWN FOR A HEAVY LUNCHEON. FOR ALL OF REID+S HEROICS,
HE WAS HONORED BY HAVING HIS CAR WASHED BY SOME OF THE OPPOSING
VOLLEYBALL PLAYERS. LUCKILY THEY WERE NICE ENOUGH TO LEAVE THE
PAINT ON THE CAR. IT WAS AN ENJOYABLE DAY FOR EVERYONE.
